Description:
- Novel mitochondrial-derived peptide to treat diseases in aging, including cancer.
- Selectively induces apoptosis in cancer and senescent cells, while sparing healthy cells.
- Promotes autophagy, reprograms immune cells, and modulates inflammation.
Abstract
Age-related diseases, like cancer and chronic inflammation, are tough to treat due to complex cellular issues such as mitochondrial decline, senescence, and immune suppression. Existing therapies are often non-specific, toxic, and don’t address core drivers like dysfunctional cell signaling. USC researchers developed NOSH, a mitochondrial-derived peptide, and its analogs, which target the root causes of these diseases. NOSH induces cancer cell death, promotes autophagy, reverses cellular senescence, and reprograms immune cells without harming healthy cells. This therapy provides a safer, more targeted treatment for aging-related conditions by leveraging mitochondrial pathways.
Benefit
- Targeted Action: Selectively induces apoptosis in cancer and senescent cells while sparing healthy cells, minimizing toxicity.
- Therapeutic Effects: Promotes autophagy, reprograms immune cells (M2 to M1 macrophages), and modulates inflammation, targeting key cancer and aging pathways.
- Non-Toxic and Biocompatible: Proven safety in animal models, suitable for long-term use.
- Broad Applicability: Effective against various cancers, including prostate, ovarian, glioblastoma, and liver.
- Peptide Engineering: Supports analog optimization for enhanced potency, stability, and tailored profiles.
Market Application
- Cancer Therapy
- Senolytic Therapy
- Immunomodulation
- Combination Therapy Platform
- Inflammatory Disease Treatment
