12-264 - Accurate 3D Body Modeling

Description:
  • Body scanning

  • Weight management

  • Fitness and sports

Abstract

USC researchers developed a system that captures and transforms the user’s silhouette into a 3D body model. This image capturing system enables the user to extract information on their body shape. The camera is able to analyze while the user repositions and poses. An accurate, fully reconstructed model of the user is the final product. This technology can have a wide adaptation in the global 3D scanning market – projected to be $5.7 billion by 2021.

Benefit

  • Low cost

  • At-home use

  • Low number of cameras needed

Market Application

With the advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning, 3D modeling software has been developed and been applied to many industries. The development of new sensors have made it possible to have more accurate body scanning. While expensive industrial applications of 3D modeling exist, there is no system available for the general population. There is a gap in the market to have a low-cost camera system capable of scanning a person with high accuracy.
