Abstract
USC inventors have designed a hybrid memory array with optical and magnetic components enabling ultra-fast read and write operations, called NEBULA. NEBULA is a wafer-scale single super non-volatile magnetic memory chip with optical read and write capability and optical interconnects. The design far surpasses the memory storage density and speed of today’s memory technology and computing platforms, and it can accommodate both on-demand configurable digital and analog acceleration.
Benefits
- Improves memory storage density and speed
- Efficient selective optical write
- High bandwidth
- Ultra-fast operations
- Capable of wafer-scale integration
Market Application
Computing requirements for data-intensive applications like AI double every 3.5 months, rendering even state-of-the-art computing platforms inefficient. The three fundamental bottlenecks in these platforms are limited on-chip data storage with constrained bandwidth, off-chip data communication overhead, and segregation of computing and memory due to von-Neumann architecture.
Stage of Development
